Shaheed Major Harbans Singh Chahal Life Biography
Shaheed Major Harbans Singh Chahal was born in village Mohanpura on 6 December 1938 to Sardar Avtar Singh Chahal and Sardarni Dalip Kaur. He completed his primary education in Mohanpura school. He passed his high school from Khalsa High School, Sri Ganganagar in 1956. Even at that time, he was one of the famous and special students of the school. He complete his BA degree from Birla Arts College, Pilani. He was a very high class player in school and college. In 1961, he was declared the best player in Birla Arts College, Pilani. In the same year, he was also elected the Vice President of the College Union. In 1962, he was also elected Vice President of Youth Hostel Association while the former Chief Minister Shri Barkatullah Khan was the President. In 1963, he took admission in Aligarh Muslim University for M.A., LL.B. and in the same year he was elected as a member of the Aligarh Muslim University Cabinet which was an impossible position for a nonMuslim student at that time. He also received the University colours for being the athletics champion of Rajasthan University. When he was pursuing MA, LL.B, he was selected in Indian Army through the Emergency Commission. He was commissioned from Indian Military Academy, Dehradun on 8 February 1964 and was selected in the Regular Commission from Jabalpur in 1966.
